Madrid will play host to a Davis Cup by BNP Paribas tie for the first time in five years when Spain takes on Ukraine in September's World Group play-offs.

The Real Federacion Espanol de Tenis confirmed on Tuesday that the Caja Magica, location of Rafael Nadal's recent ATP Masters-1000 triumph, will host the tie which will decide who plays in the competition's top tier next season.

Unsurprisingly, the Spanish have elected to play on clay and they will be hopeful to welcome back two of the best performers on that particular surface in the shape of Nadal and David Ferrer when they host Ukraine on 13-15 September.

Nadal won his 23rd ATP Masters-1000 title when he defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in the final of Madrid, which was contested at the Caja Magica on Sunday, and the Spanish fans will be hoping that victory will be fresh in their No. 1's mind when it comes to playing later this year.

Ferrer, who came closest to defeating Nadal in Madrid last week, has a dominant singles record in Davis Cup having won his last 10 rubbers and he holds a perfect record on clay having won all 16 of the rubbers he has played on the surface.

The play-off between Poland and Australia will be played at the Torwar Arena in Warsaw but the Polish Tennis Association has yet to confirm the surface.

An extension has been granted until 22 May for two of the play-offs: Switzerland v Ecuador and Belgium v Israel.
