Mexico battled hard to finish off their Americas Zone Group II clash against Puerto Rico on the second day after Daniel Garza and Santiago Gonzalez defeated Gilberto Alvarez and Alex Llompart 64 67(4) 61 36 86 in Saturday's doubles. Garza had already put the visitors 2-0 up on Friday after comfortably defeating Christian Garay 62 60 63, following the lead of countryman Miguel-Angel Reyes-Varela who defeated Alex Llompart 76(2) 63 76(4). Victory sees Mexico take on El Salvador in the Americas Zone Group II second round on April 5-7.

El Salvador set up a Americas Zone Group II second round clash with Mexico after defeating Barbados on home soil in Santa Tecla. Rafael and Marcelo Arevalo defeated Darian King and Russell Moseley 26 63 64 62 in Saturday's doubles to put the tie beyond doubt.

Rafael Arvelo had set the ball rolling with a 63 67(1) 62 64 opening rubber victory over King before world No. 382 Marcelo Arevalo emphatically thumped Anthony Marshall 61 61 61. The two then condemned Barbados to a relegation Play-off against Puerto Rico on April 5-7 with victory in the doubles.

Venezuela set up a second round meeting with Peru in April after a Luiz David Martinez and partner David Souto proved too much for Guatemalans Christopher Diaz-Figueroa and Sebastien Vidal in Saturday's doubles.

The home pairing earn themselves a 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 win to complete a 3-0 win which completed the job started by Souto and Ricardo Rodriguez in Friday's singles matches. With the home side 2-0 up going in Saturday's doubles, Guatemala had little chance of turning things around. The visitors will now head to relegation play-off in April against Haiti.

Peru defeated Haiti 3-0

Duilio Beretta and Sergio Galdos grabbed the winning point for Peru with a 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4 win over Haitians Joel Allen and Olivier Sajous in Saturday's doubles in Lima.

The doubles victory followed on from wins on day one for Beretta and Mauricio Echazu, who overcame Hillel Rousseau and Sajous respectively to give Peru a 2-0 lead which proved, ultimately, too big for Haiti to overturn.

Peru will now face Venezuela (see above) in April, when victory for either team would secure a place in September's third round ties.
