The International 18 & Under Touring Team to North America takes advantage of the busy tournament period in the North American hard court season which comes to a climax at the US Open at the beginning of September each year.
Some of the notable names to have been a part of the North American Touring Team over the last decade have included: Veronica Cepede Royg (2008, 2009, 2010), Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (2008), Ricardas Berankis (2006, 2007), and Ryan Sweeting (2005)
The 2012 Team
In 2012 the North American Touring Team comprised four players and competed at the USTA International Hard Court Championships, the Canadian Open Junior Championships and the US Open Junior Tennis Championships.
The players were:
Wayne Montomery (RSA)
Hassan Ndayishimiye (BDI)
Zarah Razafimahatratra (MAD)
Nayar Sherif (EGY)
Travelling under the guidance of team coach Ivan Molina, the team began the tour with a three-day training camp in Washington prior to the first tournament.
Wayne Montgomery made an outstanding run in the first tournament, taking home both the boys' singles and boys' doubles titles at the USTA International Hard Court Championships. Montgomery then went on to have an impressive run at the US Open, reaching the quarterfinals of the boys' singles at Flushing Meadows.
At the Canadian Open, Zarah Razafimahatratra reached the quarterfinals of the girls' doubles partnered with non-team member Ilka Csoregi, the pair winning all their matches in straight sets.
