ITF/CAT 14&under Team to Europe

Franz Sydow (ARU) was selected to the ITF/CAT and Rest of the World 14 & under Team to Europe and will compete in five weeks of four Grade 1 and one Grade 2 competitions from 6th July to 8th August 2009. ITF Grand Slam Development Fund (GSDF)

The following players received financial assistance from the GSDF in order to compete in international tournaments in their region: Darian King (BAR), Gian Issa (SUR), Simone Pratt (BAH), and Stephanie Marchena (ARU).

ITF Junior Circuit

Gian Issa (SUR) won the boys' 14 & under singles at the Copa Horizontes de la Amistad in Havana, Cuba from 15-20 June. He defeated Yasiel Estrada (CUB) 6-2, 6-2, and teamed up with Justin Roberts from Bahamas to defeat Bonitasi (GUA) and Rodriguez (CUB) 6-2 6-2 in the finals. Both boys were part of the ITF Team to COSAT 2009.

Darian King and Rodney Carey both lost in the boys' U18 singles semi-finals of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation ITF Circuit, but bounced back to win the boys' doubles defeating Jean Michael Blovin and Benoit Paradis (CAN) 6-3 1-0 Ret. Fausthyara Pietersz (AHO) also reached both girls' singles and doubles finals and was defeated by Monica Yajima (USA) 4-6 6-4 4-6. The doubles were abandoned due to bad weather. Play and Stay

The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association has been successfully promoting Play and Stay sponsored by ACE Insurance. For more information and highlights please click on the following link: www.blta.bm  

The Tennis Association of Trinidad & Tobago, in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports, launched the second stage of the Play and Stay shaping the community programme on Sunday 7th June in St. Babbs, Laventille, Trinidad. www.tennistt.com  

 

 

Caribbean Games

The inaugural Caribbean Games, which were scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago from 12-19 July 2009, have been cancelled due to the possible out-break and spread of the H1N1 Virus during the games. For information please click on the following link www.caribbeangames2009.com
