    World Junior Tennis Competition
    Pre Qualifying El Salvador: 15-21 February
    Guatemala (boys and girls) advanced to the final qualifying round, which will take place from 2-4 May in Montreal, Canada.

    Cuba (boys) advanced to the final qualifying round, which will take place from 2-4 May in Montreal, Canada.

    ITF Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas

    Bahamas (girls) advanced to the final qualifying round, which will take place from 2-4 May in Montreal, Canada.

    ITF Junior Touring Teams

    ITF/COTECC Central American and Caribbean Junior Touring Team to the COSAT circuit
    In 2008 the ITF continued to assist the best promising juniors in the region to be part of the ITF Junior Touring Teams. Based on their performance, commitment and discipline Kerrie Cartwright (Bah), Darian King (Bar) and Gian Issa (Sur) completed four weeks in the COSAT Circuit in South America. The circuit started on January 10th 2008 in Colombia, followed by legs in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The Coaches were Ivan Molina (ITF Coach) and Carlos Rodriguez (ITF Development Officer for Central America).

    Development Events

    ITF 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships
    The ITF Development Championships, which was for players aged 14 & Under will now be for players aged 13 & Under from 2008. The objective behind the change was to encourage nations to emphasize focus on their younger players (12 and 10 years) in the JTI Programmes, while exposing them to international competition at an early age. The Championships will take place in Antigua and Barbuda from 11-17 August. Further information will be sent to all invited nations soon.

    Regional Training Camp
    In an effort to improve the quality of training opportunities for the best 13 & Under players in the English Speaking Caribbean, 2008 will see the inauguration of the first combined high performance Training Camp, with the participation of a maximum of six of the best 13 & Under players from both Central America and the Caribbean. The combined camp will help improve the players from the region by exposing the players to a variety of playing ability. Further information on the camp will be communicated through the ITF Development Officers.

    Coaches Education

    Regional Coaches Conference
    The ITF Regional Coaches Conference is scheduled to take place in the region in September 2008. Confirmation will be sent to all Federations soon. For more information please click here.

    Play Tennis Course
    The ITF Play Tennis Course is one component of the Tennis Play and Stay campaign and aims to provide coaches with ideas on how to work effectively with starter players of all ages using a game-based approach. The following nations will be conducting Play Tennis Courses:
    Grenada 6-8 June, Tobago 27-29 June, Trinidad 4-6 July 2008.

    Level 1 Coaches Courses
    The following nations received funding from Olympic Solidarity to organize Level 1 Courses on these proposed dates: Antigua and Barbuda 14-22 June, Trinidad and Tobago 12-20 July and Barbados 23-31 August 2008.

    The goal of the Level 1 Course is to give candidates the skills required to introduce people to tennis through mini-tennis, to coach players up to junior competition level and also to promote tennis at the grass roots level. For more information click here.

    The ITF launched a new coaching website called ‘Tennis icoach’ The comprehensive website is designed to deliver the very best coaching and playing information to tennis coaches, players and enthusiasts around the world. For further information please click here.

    ITF EDP Programme

    The EDP Programme continues to assist and encourage developing ITF member nations to have a JTI programmes by providing free equipment to support the programme. Please remember that to be eligible to receive equipment assistance, you should submit your 5 year plan (2008-2012). I would like to thank nations who submitted their EDP on time and remind nations who have not done so to please submit your EDP request form which was due on February 1 2008.

    5 Year Development Plan

    I would like to thank nations who have submitted an approved plan. For nations who will be submitting their 5 Year Development Plan from 2008, you will be required to use the updated template from 2008-2012. If you have not yet received an updated template please contact Anthony Jeremiah, ITF Development Officer.

    International Players Identification Number (IPIN)

    Junior IPIN is a new initiative for the ITF Junior Circuit that was launched on 5th December 2007. Juniors can now register at ipin.itftennis.com for their own unique IPIN. All players entering 2008 ITF Junior Circuit tournaments need to have a Junior IPIN. For further information please click here.

    ITF Junior Tennis School

    The ITF launched the ITF Junior Tennis School - a worldwide programme related to player education on tennis-related matters. The e-learning website will consist of 17 modules in three languages on tennis related topics. To register please click here.

    Caribbean News

    Welcome back Antigua and Barbuda as ITF B Class Member Nation.

    Cayman Islands Tennis Federation hosted its first Outback Champions Series (Legends Championships) from 16th to 20th April 2008.
