Theron wins first ITF singles titles in homeland
Second seed Liniques Theron (NAM) won her first ITF singles title on home soil when she beat South African Huibre-Mare Botes in the final in a one sided affair, 62 64. The local spectators at the ITF South/Central African 18 & under tournament were hoping for an all-Namibian final until No. 1 seed and tournament favourite Lesedi Jacobs suffered a back injury during the doubles and had to withdraw from her singles semifinal match, giving Botes a walkover. With Botes already through to the final, Theron defeated Georgina Axon (GBR) in a tight three set match 16 62 63 to secure her spot in the final.

Botes and her twin sister, Louise-Mare, also reached the doubles final, when they faced Axon and her partner Louise Ronaldson (GBR). However, the Brits proved too strong for the sisters, beating them 62 46 [107].

In the boys’ singles final seventh seed Lloyd Harris (RSA) made quick work of his British opponent Sam Rice 60 60 to claim the title. The boys’ doubles final was an all-South African affair and was won by the twins, Okkie and Francois Kellerman (RSA), who overcame Lloyd Harris and Joshua Luck 62 60.

During the closing ceremony, Bob Mould, President of the Namibia Tennis Association (NTA), thanked the ITF for their support of this ITF Development Circuit. The ceremony concluded with brief thank you speeches by ITF Development Officer for Southern Africa, Riaan Kruger and Pieter Hoeksma, Tournament Referee, thanking the ITF, NTA, sponsors and players for their support during these events.
