Uzbekistan take home trophy
For the second consecutive year Uzbekistan edged out Kazakhstan to claim the trophy at the ITF Central Asian 13 & under junior championships which were hosted by the Kyrgyzstan Tennis Federation (TFKR) in Bishkek on 26 September-8 October.

The Kazakstan boys’ impressed in the first tournament as Dostan Tashbulatov saw off his countryman Ilya Taranin to claim the title. However it was Uzbekistan’s turn to dominate in the second tournament when Sherzod Radjabov got the better of Azizhon Turgunov in the final.

The Uzbek girls proved unbeatable in both tournaments. A fine performance from Komala Umarova saw her take both singles titles, defeating compatriots Yulia Kim and Sarvinozkhon Bakirova in the finals of the first and second tournaments respectively.

A total of 48 players and coaches from the central Asian countries of Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan participated in the Central Asian Championships, which were held at the Academy of Tennis, a new facility constructed by the TFKR to develop players. The facility consists of four outdoor clay courts and two indoor hard courts.

The format of the event consisted of two consecutive tournaments using a feed in consolation system in which all players compete in a single match each day, leading to a final overall ranking. The ITF organised a one-day training camp which was conducted by Suresh Menon, ITF Development for Asia, prior to the start of the first tournament.

TFKR President Marat Tenizbaev was very happy that the ITF had given TFKR the opportunity to host this important development championship in Kyrgyzstan.
