| International ITF/Grand Slam 18&U Team to North America |
This year’s ITF/Grand Slam 18&U Touring Team to North America, funded by the Grand Slam Development Fund and comprising four players, competed at the USTA International Hard Court Championships, the Canadian Open Junior Championships and the US Open Junior Tennis Championships.
The players were:
Wayne Montgomery (RSA)
Hassan Ndayishimiye (BDI)
Zarah Razafimahatratra (MAD)
Mayar Sherif (EGY)
Travelling under the guidance of ITF team coach Ivan Molina, the team began the tour with a three-day training camp in Washington prior to the first tournament.
Wayne Montgomery made an outstanding run in the first tournament, taking home both the boys’ singles and boys’ doubles titles. In doubles he paired with non-ITF team player, fellow South African Matthew Rossouw.
Montgomery went on to have an impressive run at the US Open, reaching the quarterfinals of the boys’ singles at Flushing Meadows.
At the Canadian Open, Zarah Razafimahatratra reached the quarterfinals of the girls doubles' partnered with non-team member Ilka Csoregi (ROU), the pair winning all their matches in straight sets.
The ITF/Grand Slam Junior Touring Team is funded by the Grand Slam Development Fund and administered by the ITF.
