ITF/Tennis Europe U14 team tour in Germany
The ITF/Tennis Europe 14 & under Grand Slam touring team finished their tour in Germany this weekend after a very successful four weeks.

The tour, which included four Category 1 and 2 tournaments, started on 29 July with a training camp in Cologne where they had two days to train and to get to know each other before going on to the first tournament at the same venue.

Denys Klok (UKR) reached the finals in Cologne after defeating some impressive competition including the number 2 seed, before losing to Australian Oliver Anderson in the finals 26 36. Mattias Siimar (EST) won the boys’ singles consolation event beating his teammate Toni Neykov (BUL) in the finals.

The following week in Ulm produced more good results with Alp Sentay (TUR) lifting the boys’ singles trophy and Bojan Jakulovski (MKD) and Neykov reaching the boys’ doubles finals. Klok and Sentay teamed up to play in the boys’ under 16s doubles event, where they reached the quarterfinals. On the girls’ side, Anastasia Detiuc (MDA) lost to the number one seed, Anna Kalinskaya (RUS) in the finals after a close match 36 64 16. Vera Lapko (BLR) reached the semifinals before falling to the eventual winner. Detiuc and Natalya Malenko (UKR) then teamed up to win the girls’ under 16 doubles event after an exciting win over second seeds Vera Aleshcheva and Amina Anshba of Russia 57 76(2) 10/7.

The tour continued in Eching where Klok reached the semifinals of the boys’ singles despite having sustained an injuring during his previous match. Detiuc and Malenko had another successful week in doubles winning the girls’ event with an impressive win over Alissia Gleixner (GER) and Anastasia Zarytska (UKR) 57 64 10/7.

On to the prestigious Mercedes Jugend Cup in Renningen and Denys Klok once again showed that he is one of Europe’s best players in his age category by taking the boys’ singles title. Klok and Mattias Siimar then teamed up for the first time in the doubles tournament, which proved to be a winning combination as they defeated the Australian pairing Alexei Popyrin and Brian Tan in the final. The girls were not short of success either with Detiuc and Malenko scoring a hat trick by winning the doubles event with a convincing win over number one seeds Iona Guna and Andrea Amalia Rosca from Romania 76(7) 63.

After four very competitive tournaments, team coaches Goran Shevchenko and Petar Danolic concluded that it had been a very successful summer for this year’s team. Players competed in some of the best European events in this age division and showed great attitude, competitive spirit and work ethic. The players’ desire to improve paid off as their level of play improved and they became more competitive as the tour went on. This was apparent in both the singles and doubles play. The tour provided a great opportunity for all the players who will be able to use this experience for their future development.
