| ITF President opens Bulgaria National Tennis Centre |
ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov, opened the renovated Bulgarian National Tennis Centre “Carlsberg” in Sofia last week.
The opening ceremony of the complex was also attended by the President of Tennis Europe, Jacques Dupré, and the Vice President, Aida Uluk, who is also in charge of the Turkish Tennis Federation. From the Bulgarian side the event was also attended by the chairman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Stefka Kostadinova and the Minister of Physical Education and Sports, Svilen Neykov.
The President of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation, Stefan Tzvetkov opened the ceremony: “Today is a memorable day in the history of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation and Bulgarian tennis as a whole. When the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced that there will be a national tennis centre ahead of time, I said that this is a dream come true for many generations. Representatives of some of those generations are here with us, some of them are not among us anymore but I am sure that they are watching us and also enjoy it. With the opening of the Bulgarian National Tennis Centre we have reached a new stage in our development and laid the foundations of an effective and transparent operation of the BTF in the sport, technical and administrative plan”.
Afterwards Francesco Ricci Bitti said “I am happy to be here again for the opening of this tennis centre. I want to thank the Bulgarian government for their support regarding this project. I wish the best of luck to the Bulgarian team in the upcoming Davis Cup tournament. Although your country is not very big as a country, it has long lasting traditions in tennis. I want to thank also the President of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation, Stefan Tzvetkov, for the invitation.”
