| Players warm up for African Junior Championships |
African players are warming up this week for the African Junior Championships at Al-Solimaneyah City, Giza, Egypt. The tournament, which offers competition in two age categories, 16 and 14-and-under, has attracted entries from 61 boys and 57 girls from 27 nations. The Warm up tournament allows the African players to adapt to local conditions in preparation for the all-important African Junior Championships, held at the same venue next week. Feed-in consolation events are organised so that players have the opportunity to play a singles match every day, giving the players vital competition in advance of their continent’s most prestigious junior tennis event. Players qualified by taking part in one of three zonal championships which took place in January and February in West and Central Africa, Southern Africa and East Africa.
Both events are being hosted by the Egyptian Tennis Federation in collaboration with the ITF and the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT).
