| Ghana claims team trophy in Togo |
Victories from Elizabeth Kapari, Isaac Nortey and Emmanuel Plange helped Ghana to win the team trophy at the ITF/CAT West & Central African Junior Championships. Nigeria finished second and Cameroon were third of the 12 countries to participate in the week-long competition which took place in Lomé, Togo.
In the girls 16 & under event Kapari defeated Sarah Adegoke (NGR) 62 64, Nortey overcame Michael Michael (NGR) 62 57 62 in the boys 14 & under final and Plange triumphed over Timi Godsgift (NGR) in the boys 12 & under with a 57 75 [106] victory.
The girls 14 & under competition was awarded to Nigeria’s Zainab Oladimedji after she overcame Marie-Ange Sia (CIV) 62 62 while Paula Mabrey (CMR) won the girls 12 & under round-robin competition. The boys 16 & under competition was dominated by William Bushamuka (COD), who trains at the ITF/CAT/FST Training Centre in Dakar, Senegal, defeating Abdoul Karim Ouattara (CIV) 64 36 64.
The top six players in each age group plus one ITF/CAT wildcard will qualify for the 35th ITF/CAT African Junior Championships to be held from 4-14 April in Cairo, Egypt.
