| Egypt and Benin dominate 18 & under circuit |
Egypt and Benin dominated the ITF West Africa 18 & Under Circuit, capturing three of the four singles titles. Seventy players from 14 countries took part in the circuit in Benin and Togo on 8-18 September.
In Benin, Stephanie N’tcha (BEN) was victorious in both girls’ events, defeating Jessica Laing (RSA) 61 64 in the singles final and partnering Sohinee Ghosh (MRI) to a 75 63 doubles victory over Jessica and Melissa Laing (RSA). In the boys’ events, Benjamin Lock (ZIM) defeated Omar El Kheshen (EGY) 63 61 in the singles final, while El Kheshen and Mark Wakeim (EGY) overcame Dylan Comerford and Warren Kuhn (RSA) 63 46 [10-8] to win the doubles.
In Togo, N’tcha overcame Jessica Laing 63 62 in a repeat of the Benin final, while Wakeim defeated compatriot Mohamed Auf (EGY) 75 36 61 in the boys’ final. The boys’ doubles saw victory for Nigerians Samuel Omoile and Vincent Ito, while Marina Albert (EGY) and Veruska Van Wyk (RSA) defeated N’tcha and Ghosh 64 63 in the girls’ doubles final.
Atafeitom Tagba, President of the Togo Tennis Federation, said: “It is a pleasure for me to have such an event in this country. I would like to thank the ITF for their assistance, with special thanks to the committee members of the FTT, National Olympic Committee and the Sports Minister to make this event a great success.”
