ITF/Tennis Europe 14 and 16 & Under Teams in Germany and Austria
2009 was another successful year for 14&U and 16&U ITF/Tennis Europe Grand Slam Junior Touring Teams that took part in a 4 week tour in Germany and Austria.

The tour started on 26 July with a training camp which was held in Württemberg Regional Tennis Center close to Stuttgart, Germany. The team consisted of five girls: Elena-Teodora Cadar (ROU), Borislava Bothusharova (BUL), Nastassia Rubel (BLR), Julia Terziyska (BUL) and Fatmanur Atilgan (TUR) and four boys: George Tsivadze (GEO), Lukas Mugevicius (LTU), Yuriy Kryvoy (UKR) and Ivan Divkovic (BIH).

The training camp gave the players and coaches, Goran Shevchenko (MKD) and Oskar Saarne (EST), the oportunity to get to know each other before competing in the tournaments in Germany: LBS Waiblingen Cup (July 27 to August 2), LBS Ulm Cup (August 4 to 9), Haid (August 11 to 16) and Mercedes Jugend Cup, Rutesheim /Renningen (August 18 to 23).

In the first tournament in Waiblingen, there were some encouraging results with Nastassia Rubel and Yuriy Kryvoy both reaching the 14 & U singles finals but losing to Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) 75 64 and Or Ram (ISR) 76 76 respectively. Nastassia Rubel then teamed up with Julia Terziyska to reach the girls doubles finals where they were defeated by Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) and Natalie Cvackova (CZE) 62 62. In the 16 & under category, George Tsivadze and Lukas Mugevicius won the first team trophy by taking the boys doubles title with a win over the British pair Sam Hutt/Jathan Malik 62 63.

The second week in Ulm saw the team collect their first singles title when Elena-Teodora Cadar defeated her team mate Borislava Bothushariova in the 16 & U girls singles final 64 64. In the boys doubles event, Tsivadze and Mugevicius lifted their second title in a row by winning 62 61 against the Polish team Marcin Grzesinski and Piotr Lutkowski whilst Nastassia Rubel, partnering Irina Chernaya (RUS), reached her second final but was again unsuccessful and lost 75 16 76 to Maria Limanskaya and Polina Yuzefovich (RUS).

At the 16 &U tournament in Haid, Elena-Teodora Cadar reached the finals again but was defeated by Irina-Maria Bara 26 64 62, who had also overcome Borislava Bothusharova in the semi-finals 63 16 62. The eventual winner in the boys category, Patrick Ofner (AUT), was also too strong for the two ITF/Tennis Europe players - first he beat Lukas Mugevicius in the semi-final 75 61 and then in the final George Tsivadze 63 57 62. The doubles event was a different story, when for their hat trick Tsivadze/Mugevicius won the title over Austrian team Patrick Ofner and Thomas Hausler 62 36 10 8. Rubel and Terziyska played their second doubles final together and lost to Romanians Irina-Maria Bara and Irina Constantinide 62 36 10 8.

The last stop in Rutesheim /Renningen and the team achieved some excellent results. In the U16s category, George Tsivadze won his first singles event on the tour beating Elmar Ejupovic (BIH) 75 61 and Elena-Teodora Cadar reached her third consecutive final but was unsuccesful against Simona Ionescu (ROU) losing 62 67 61. In the 14 & U doubles event, Tsivadze/Mugevicius played their fourth final in a row but were unable to repeat their earlier success losing to Lukas Clemens/Finn Wilke (GER) 67 64 10 7. Rubel and Terziyska reached their third final but just missed securing their first title as they were defeated by Valeria Patiuk (ISR) and Ksenia Sharifova (RUS) 75 26 10 7.

ITF/Tennis Europe Development Officer, Hrvoje Zmajic, commented: »The Touring Teams are the most important part in assisting in the development of the most promising juniors from the countries benefiting from the ITF/Tennis Europe Development Programme.

Once again I would like to thank the Wurtemberg Tennis Federation for enabling us to use the Centre for our training camp where we found excellent conditions for preparing for the very succesful Tour. We are looking forward to continuing this cooperation in future years.«
