Success for ITF 14 & Under Teams in Europe
Four ITF 14 & Under teams, comprising 39 players from 25 different countries, completed a successful European tour at the weekend, which saw them represented in 11 finals and win 7 titles over the five weeks of the Young Stars Tour.

At the first tournament, the BNP Paribas Cup, the Peruvian duo of Nicholas Osterling and Jorge Panta captured the boys doubles title for the COSAT team with a convincing win over the Japanese pair Nishioka and Numajiri 61 64. The Indonesian girls playing on the ATF team, Voni Darlina and Adila Sutjiadi, reached the girls doubles finals but were ultimately beaten by the second seeds Haas (AUT) and Krejcikova (CZE) 26 46, who had beaten Tennis Europe's pair of Cveta Dimitrova (BUL) and Darya Lebesheva (BLR) on their way to the finals.

The second week saw the teams move on to the Windmill Cup in Holland, where the ATF team pairing of Katherine Ip (HKG) and Zi Yue Sun (CHN) met their match in the girls doubles finals losing to Australians Barty and Stojic 26 36. Darya Lebesheva, top seed in the girls singles, was defeated in the final by Indy De Vroome (NED) 64 26 36.

Rueil-Malmaison was the next stop on the tour, where Jose Andres Chamba (ECU) fought some tough matches before taking the boys singles title for the COSAT team, with a win over Alexandre Favrot (FRA) 76 67 62. Ip and Sun repeated their performance of the previous week by reaching the girls doubles finals but lost to the Japanese team of Okuno and Kawase 36 46.

On to Cologne, Germany for the fourth week where the COSAT team players dominated the boys events, with Jorge Panta (PER) defeating team member Juan Pablo Paz (ARG) in the boys singles final 62 63. Paz and Chamba then went on to lift the boys doubles trophy in a tight match against team mates Osterling and Panta 76(4) 63. In the girls doubles, Domenica Gonzalez (ECU) teamed up with Ashleigh Barty (AUS) to beat the German pair Maetschke and Nabel 60 64 and take the title.

The final tournament took place in Hasselt, Belgium which saw Mayar Sherief (EGY) of the CAT team sweep past the fourth and tenth seeds to win a place in the girls singles finals against Domenica Gonzalez, which she won 64 62. The COSAT girls Ferny Angeles (PER) and Carmen Blanco (VEN) took the girls doubles title defeating the Czech players Rouchkova and Siniakova 46 63 (10 7). Chamba, going for his second singles win on the tour, was unable to clinch the title when he lost to Gianluigi Quinzi (ITA) in the boys singles event 16 46.

The circuit, which consists of five consecutive tournaments in France, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and forms part of the Tennis Europe 14 & Under Junior Tour, offers some of the best, and certainly the longest sequence, of top class competitive opportunities available for players of this age group. Through their participation this year, players from South America, Central America & Caribbean, Africa, some parts of Europe and Asia will have not only gained experience but would have been able to compare their skills against the best young European players, as well as against each other. During the tour, the players travelled with 9 ITF appointed coaches and qualified for the ITF teams by performing well in designated ITF regional events.
