Zarah Razafimahatratra strikes gold in Potchefstroom

Match Report

Zarah Razafimahatratra (MAD)

Zarah Razafimahatratra of Madagascar, who is based at the ITF/SATA Training Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, got her senior career off to a great start with victories in both the singles and doubles events at the second Futures tournament held in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Zarah, who reached a career high junior singles ranking of 22, catapulted her women’s ranking to 693 after her fourth event since starting on the women’s pro circuit earlier this year. After getting a bit of luck in the quarterfinals when top seed Chanel Simmonds (RSA) had to pull out due to injury, Zarah never looked back. Her best match came in the final when she overcame Estelle Cascino of France 76(5) 60. Zarah teamed up with fellow training centre resident Lynn Kiro (RSA) to lift the doubles trophy.

After the final, Zarah commented “I am so happy to have got my first title and to win the doubles as well is a bonus. After a long year I am looking forward to spending some time with my family in Madagascar before starting training again early in January.”
