Damien Laporte became the first player from the Seychelles to reach an African Junior Championships final on Wednesday at the under 14 boys' event in Pretoria, South Africa.

Following a victory in the round robin stage, Laporte beat South Africa's Khololwam Montsi for a second time with a 64 63 win in the semifinals. His final opponent will be Mickael Osewa (NGR), who came back from a set down for the third time in the tournament to beat Kenyan Ryan Randiek 46 64 62.

The Girls' 16 & under singles category final will be contested between ITF Moroccan Training Centre player Sada Nahimana, of Burundi, and Morrocco's Diae El Jardi. Sada overwhelmed South African Corin De Waal 61 60 whilst Diae El Jardi defeated Dalila Said of Egypt 75 62.

Later in the day Aisha Niyonkuru became the second player from Burundi to reach the finals with a 63 63 victory over Lara Van Der Merwe of South Africa. She will be up against Makayla Loubser, who defeated teammate Delien Kleinhans in an all-South African semifinal 64 75.

In the 16 & under Boys' singles event, Yousef Khamis (EGY) continued his fine form with a 62 62 win over Justin Liebenberg (RSA). He will face local favourite Philip Henning, of South Africa, who overcame Soufiane El Mesbahi (MAR) 63 63 in the semifinals.

With some crucial matches in the finals, the team trophy looks to be a South African-Egyptian affair.
