The ITF can assist National Associations by providing grants towards the establishment or improvement of National Tennis Centres. Since 1994, 77 National Associations have taken advantage of the assistance available, either to construct a new facility, or to renovate existing tennis facilities under their ownership or control. Grants for facilities are paid in instalments at the beginning, midway and at completion of projects.

While being only a small percentage of the overall building cost, the ITF grant often acts as an endorsement and catalyst to enable associations to attract other funding whether from the government or private sector. In 2007, the following national associations benefited from facility grants:

  • Bhutan
  • Burkina Faso
  • Myanmar
  • Niger
  • Pakistan
  • Samoa
  • Sri Lanka
  • Yemen
  • Zimbabwe

In May 2004, with the help of an ITF facility grant awarded in late 2003, the Oman Tennis Association completed a 4-court facility at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Following the success of this facility, the Oman Tennis Association secured additional funding from the ministry to build a further 3 courts giving them a venue large enough to then go on and host for the first time the ITF Asian 13 & U Championships – Zone 4 (West Asia) in December 2004.

The Mauritius Tennis Federation (MTF) had for some years been trying to get a facility of its own and the catalyst for making its dream a reality was the 6th Indian Ocean Games. Knowing that it had this important regional event to host, it sought private sponsorship as well as government backing. The government assisted by giving the land at Petit Camp in Phoenix to the MTF for a nominal fee for a period of 20 years. In addition, the MTF received a grant of US$20,000 and the remainder of the funding was sought from the private sector. With the new facility in place, the MTF now has the flexibility to run and develop its own programmes such as the ITF backed Junior Tennis Initiative as well as to hold national and international tournaments.

Facility Grant Application Guidelines in English, French and Spanish are available from the ITF Development Department. Any National Association wishing to apply for a facility grant should contact the Development Department by e-mail at: development@itftennis.com.
