Training of Coaches

Each year, over 60 countries worldwide participate in the ITF coaches’ education programme by organising a course for national coaches. The ITF can assist with the training of coaches through a variety of formats.

a) Recommended Level I and Level II Syllabus

A Level I and Level II syllabus is now available in English, French and Spanish for use by member nations who currently do not have a system of certifying coaches. This ready made syllabus makes it easier for National Associations to introduce a system of coaches’ education.

b) National Courses

The main aim of the ITF’s coaches’ education programme is to help nations to become self sufficient in this area. Appropriate ITF experts are available to work with coaches and prospective tutors in countries which do not have their own system. The Level I and / or Level II syllabus is generally used as the basis for these courses.

c) Olympic Solidarity

Many of the national coaches’ courses conducted each year are funded through Olympic Solidarity, the funding agency of the international Olympic Committee. Any National Association wishing to benefit from an Olympic Solidarity course for tennis coaches should write to their National Olympic Committee to request the programme. Once approved, the ITF will then arrange the course in consultation with the relevant National Association and appoint the expert.

d) Regional Workshops

Regional Workshops are held every two years in Asia, South America, Central America and Africa. These are major workshops involving top level international speakers and are designed to provide a forum for coaches’ education for the top coaches of specific regions.

e) Worldwide Coaches Workshop

This biennial gathering brings together the world’s top coaches from over 80 nations to exchange views and present latest ITF findings.

Administrators' Education

The ITF Leadership, Management and Administration Manual, produced in 1997 is a comprehensive guide to running a National Tennis Association. Available in English, French and Spanish, this Manual touches on the most important aspects for the successful administration of a National Association as well as containing detailed information on ITF programmes and activities.
Regional seminars for administrators of National Associations are conducted regularly by ITF experts. These seminars, lasting five days, are interactive workshops and cover aspects such as leadership, planning, time management, marketing and the Role of a National Association.
