Michele Cappelletti at European Beach Tennis Championships V

HERMOSA BEACH, CA, USA: This weekend this Californian venue will be hosting its third tournament of the year on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour. The event follows on from G4 events held in May and September but this one will be a G1 event, the highest grade given to tournaments outside the Championships.

A host of big name players from the world of beach tennis are expected to descend upon Hermosa Beach for the 11th G1 event of 2012 to do battle for vital world ranking points; the winners alone stand to pick up 150 points!

Previous G1s in 2012 have been dominated by joint world number five Michele Cappelletti. The Italian, with various partners, has picked up six titles, including the first five G1s of the year!

Simona Bonadona and Eva D’Elia have proved the most successful women’s partnership of the year so far at G1 events. The pair, jointly the world number three ranked players, have collected three G1 titles so far in 2012, just one more than fellow Italians Federica Bacchetta and Giulia Spazzoli.

Americans Marty Salokas and Donny Young teamed up to win the previous two G4 events and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of titles but this may be a big ask of the duo who currently share a world ranking of 63 but with home support anything can happen!
