Aruba G4 - 21 October 2013

EAGLE BEACH, ARUBA: Beach tennis action arrived in Aruba over the weekend of 26-27 October for a G4 tournament ahead of the much anticipated $21,500 G1 tournament heading to the island next week.

The titles went to the women’s top seeded team of Maria Buuts and Betza Rasmijn. The pair cruised to the title beating the second seeded Natasja Rudolphus and Danielle Van Staveren, dropping just three games in an 8-3 victory.

En route to the final, Buuts and Rasmijn only conceded two games having posted wins of 8-0 and 8-2 in successive rounds following a first round bye.

The men’s final also featured the top two seeds and was a real thriller.

The No.1 seeds Cado De Lannoy and Sergio Foek along with Bertrand Coulet and Jochem Ros who were seeded second recorded almost identical results in the lead up to their final clash, conceding just six and five games respectively in the two matches each contested.

Frenchman Coulet and his Aruban partner Ros, trailed to the top seeds throughout the final and finally moved ahead for the first time when opening up a 2-1 lead in the super tie break when the game scores were tied at 7-all.

The Aruban top seeds though recovered and when leading 9-6, victory looked a sure thing. Coulet and Ros did not give up believing and saved three match points as they reeled off five points in a row to triumph 87 (9) and claim the title.
