The defending champions are all highly ranked players on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour; Nakamura and Takahashi are ranked at No. 28 and No. 14 respectively with Aizawa and Yamamoto holding a joint current ranking of No. 23 making them the Japanese men's No. 1's.
