Faro, POR - 3-5 August 2012

FARO, PORTUGAL: Lone Spaniards David Beltran Garcia and Antomi Ramos Viera emerged from a draw in which they were the only foreign entrants with the title.

In a draw which featured 12 other teams, all from Portugal, the two Spanish players won through three rounds in the bottom half of the draw without loss of a set to reach the final where they faced the top seeded Pedro Correia and Filipe Rebelo.

The number one seeds booked their place in the final by also recording straight sets wins, having received an opening round bye.

With both pairs yet to lose a set, something had to give in the final, which proved to be a closely fought match.

A 75 score saw the Spanish pair seize the advantage and inflict a first set loss of the tournament on the fancied Portuguese pair. Another close set followed and the Spaniards secured their first title of 2012 together when they took the second set 64.

Over in the women's event, home success was guaranteed as all six entrants came from the host nation and were all awarded first round byes.

An injury to Catarina Pires meant the top seeds were unable to compete in their semifinal having already received byes in the opening two rounds of play and their withdrawal saw the third seeds move straight into the final following their 61 62 second round win.

Opposing them in the title match was the number two seeds Ana Pereira and Susana Pereira, who, following two rounds of byes, won their semifinal comfortably 62 62.

All matches that were played prior to the final had finished in straight sets wins and the final followed suit and with a 63 63 win it was the third seeds, Correia and Neto, who were crowned champions.
