BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: Last weekend saw players from Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Great Britain and Slovenia join the hosts Hungary for the second Hungarian beach tennis tournament of the year; following on from another G4 tournament held during June.
Hungarian female player Aniko Kovacs has certainly enjoyed her time playing in her home nation having claimed the titles in each of the past tournaments, a feat she was to repeat in this latest visit.
With the same partner from her earlier her 2013 success in Budapest, Monika Erdelyi, the hat trick of Hungarian titles was secured, as it was back in June, with four wins from four round-robin matches.
Their title win was far from a formality though as twice the Hungarians found themselves having to come from behind to earn victory.
The men’s event saw an all-Austrian partnership triumph as top seeds Michael Posch & Alexander Tisch defeated the unseeded Czech pairing of Vojtech Dohnal & Jan Sykora with the loss of just three games.
This final was the second successive match in which Posch & Tisch had faced Czech opposition having previously encountered fourth seeded Lukas Mrnavy & Pavel Radek in a semifinal match which had seen them come from a set down to earn a place in the final.
