Israel joins ITF Beach Tennis Tour

Beach tennis action from Israel 2012

October will see Israel take another step forward in the development of beach tennis as Herzliya hosts the country’s first two international beach tennis tournaments.

The two Grade 3 events, each offering $1,500 in prize money, will take place in back to back weekends to encourage international players to travel to the country to compete in the series starting on the 5th October.

Beach tennis has been active in Israel since 2010 with promotional and development events taking place at local and national levels. Over these two years the sport has been well received and has developed a strong national following of several hundred players.

The National Championships have been the highlight on Israel’s national calendar since 2010 and have attracted current and former top tennis players including Julia Glushko (current WTA ranking 157) and Harel Levy (former ATP ranked 30).

The addition of international competition is guaranteed to increase the attraction and growth of the sport within a country where 300 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline on the country’s western coast enjoys perfect summer weather for beach tennis while the city of Eilat over on the Red Sea boasts a perfect climate almost all year round.
