The Internazionali d’Italia di Beach Tennis will take place in Terracina, on 31 May - 2 June in the picturesque setting of the Eastern beach at the Rive di Traiano Beach.
While the idea for this unique International Beach Tennis event belongs to the Italian Tennis Federation, ASD RdT Events is responsible for the organisation of the 2012-14 editions. Classed as a G1 level tournament on the ITF Beach Tennis Circuit, the event should see the participation of the top ITF-ranked beach tennis players with the eventual champions awarded the Italian Beach Tennis Championship title.
Last year, during the first edition of the Internazionali d’Italia di Beach Tennis, 200 players from around the globe took part at the event, helping to ensure the continued growth of interest in beach tennis. The event was promoted in the Foro Italico press room in Rome during the Internazionali BNL d’italia ATP and WTA tournament on Tuesday 14 May,
Just as last year the men’s doubles will see a 64-strong field take part, while the women’s doubles will see 32 players contest the draw. Matches will be played over the best of three sets, with the final prize money tallying up to €7,500 and distributed equally between the two categories of play.
For 2013 the RdT organisation is focusing on a number of innovations including the "Oltre gli Internazionali" (which translates as “Beyond the international”) and serves as an event inside the event. On 1-2 June, while the Internazionali d’Italia di Beach Tennis tournament is in progress, ASD Rdt has organised another beach tennis event in the same location at Rive di Traiano Beach. The event will be open to the under 16 girls’ doubles, men's doubles, men's doubles open and limited 4.0 categories.
