HERZLIYA, ISRAEL: Former WTA Top 100 ranked player Tzipi Obziler (ISR) added a beach tennis title to her list of successes when she partnered compatriot Oshry Shashua to victory in the Israel Beach Tennis Open Championships. It was the second consecutive beach tennis tournament to be held in Israel.

Obziler, who boasts a 16-year Fed Cup career stretching from1994 to 2009, was a winner on the ITF Pro Circuit of 14 doubles titles from 21 finals (with an identical record in singles play) while Shashua was also a former WTA pro player from the late 1990s.

In a close final the Israeli duo ran out 64 76(5) winners over compatriots Tal Rotem and Sarit Roubinov.

In the men's event Svyatosov Tektov (RUS) and Mikhail Volkovich (LTU) took on the Italian duo Antonio Belli and Doriano Beccaccioli in the final. Tetkov was looking for his second victory in as many weeks having claimed the doubles title at the Sand Sport Israel Beach Tennis Open last week.

The Italians came into the final on the back of successive straight sets victories in which they never lost more than two games in a match whereas their opponents had come through three rounds of close matches, although like the Italians, all won in straight sets.

Tektov and Volkovich had to settle for the runners-up position as the Italians continued their impressive form and secured the title with a 62 61 triumph.
