EBTC 2013 opening ceremony

BRIGHTON, GREAT BRITAIN. The official arrival day of the European Beach Tennis Championships got off to a fine start as players from 20 European nations were welcomed to the British shores by the Madam Mayor of Brighton and Hove.

The visiting players had the chance to warm up their shots for the start of the competition whilst enjoying some bright and sunny British weather. Public were also gathering to see Europe’s elite beach tennis players as they looked forward to seeing the action hotting up over the next three days.

The opening ceremony saw a procession of players from each nation line up before the spectators before the Madam Mayor of Brighton and Hove gave a welcoming speech and wished the players and organisers a successful and enjoyable Championships.

Following the ceremony spectators were treated to an exhibition match by the hosts of last year’s European Beach Tennis Championships, San Marino, with personality Christian Berardi showing why he is always a favourite to watch in whichever nation he plays.

To the further delight of many players and spectators, the Madam Mayor also took to the court to see what all the fuss is about and enjoyed trying out the sport of beach tennis for the first time.
