PORTO SEGURO, BRAZIL. Fielding a team that includes joint world number ones Samantha Barijan and Joana Cortez, alongside the same male teammates that led their nation to becoming World Champions just two months earlier, Brazil are strong favourites for success in the inaugural ITF Beach Tennis Pan American Championships.
It will not be an easy journey though for the world number ones as Patricia Diaz from Venezuela will be looking to continue her run of form having reached the semifinals of the ITF Beach Tennis World Championships in July and subsequently climbing into the top 20.
Speaking after the draw ceremony, Diaz said ‘I have been loving every moment on the Tour over the past few months and it would be amazing to top it off with a Pan American Championships title’.
In the men's event Guilherme Prata and Vinicius Font will also be looking to add to their success at the World Team Championship but will once again have to overcome the strong Venezuelan partnership of Ramon Guedez and Jorge Penalver.
The event will take place this week with the finals on Friday and includes teams from Aruba, Brazil, Chile and Venezuela. The men's and ladies' events will both be played in round robin groups with the top two teams each of the men's groups progressing to the semifinals.
