From Monday 29 April 2013 the ITF Beach Tennis Rankings will be updated on a weekly basis. This change comes as the ITF Beach Tennis Tour (BTT) continues to grow and an increasing number of international events are being held each week.
In 2012 the BTT saw over 150 tournaments held across 32 countries with over US$400,000 in prize money on offer. This is in comparision with the 14 tournaments held in 2008, the BTT's inaugural year.
Until now, updates to the rankings were on a three-weekly schedule but this change will allow players to receive their ranking points on a weekly basis and for their ranking position to be updated accordingly.
The new system will mean that updated rankings will be released every Monday and will include ranking points earned from all ITF Beach Tennis Tour events up to three weeks earlier.
Rankings are based on a player’s best six results in men’s and women’s doubles main draw events at BTT tournaments and are calculated on a 52-week rollover system. The number of ranking points available in each round varies in accordance with the grade of the tournament.
In accordance with this new process, the ITF Beach Tennis Rankings released on Monday 29 April 2013 (Tournament Week 18) will include ranking points from all events in Tournament Week 16 in 2012 up to and including events in Tournament Week 15 in 2013.
