The first ever Pan American Championhips saw Brazilian players sweep the board claiming the honours in all three events.
A five-team round-robin event in the women's doubles eventually saw Samantha Barijan & Joana Cortez, the world No.1's, take the title with four wins from four. The men's doubles began with two round-robin groups of four teams which saw the top two of each group progress to the knock-out phase.
An all-Brazilian final saw Marcus Ferreira & Thales Santos upset the top seeds in straight sets to claim the title. Santos also picked up the mixed-doubles title with partner Sophia Kelbert.
In a further reflection of the significant growth of beach tennis, the ITF are delighted to announce that a fourth major Championship will be joining the ITF Beach Tennis Tour.
In addition to the already established ITF Beach Tennis World Team Championship, ITF Beach Tennis World Championships and the European Beach Tennis Championships, a new Pan American Championships will be staged for the first time in September 2013.
The South American nation of Brazil will host the inaugural tournament in Porto Seguro over the period 17-20 September. The Championships will be immediately followed by a $10,000 Grade 1 tournament at the same venue to complete a great and historic week of beach tennis action in South America.
