Rules & Regs - Overview
This section of the website illustrates how the ITF oversees tennis. As the governing body of the sport, the ITF is responsible for ensuring the uniformity of the rules of the game. The official ILTF (the ITF was formerly known as the International Lawn Tennis Federation) "Rules of Tennis" were adopted on 1 January 1924.

The ITF also combats doping in tennis through the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme, details of which may be found in this section, and on the ITF's Tennis Anti-Doping website.

In addition, the ITF publishes a wide selection of rulebooks for specific competitions, designed to provide guidance for officials, tournament organisers, players, coaches and team captains.

To improve our understanding of the increasingly complex equipment and facility issues, and to provide support to the Technical Commission in its challenging task of controlling the introduction of new technology in tennis, the ITF has set up a dedicated Technical Centre at its headquarters in Roehampton. You can find out more about its work on the ITF Technical website.
