Wimbledon Day 11 - Federer and Roddick in final
Roger Federer and Andy Roddick will meet in the Wimbledon men’s singles final for the third time after the two players enjoyed contrasting victories in Friday’s semifinals. Federer did not drop serve in a 76(3) 75 63 over surprise semifinalist Tommy Haas, while Roddick upset home favourite Andy Murray 64 46 76(7) 75(5).

Sunday’s final will now see Federer bid for an historic 15th Grand Slam singles title to break the record he currently shares with Pete Sampras. The 27-year-old Swiss player completed the career Grand Slam at Roland Garros last month to join Sampras on 14 major victories, including five previous Wimbledon titles. He will contest a record seventh successive final at the All England Club.

Roddick, who saved a set point in the third set of his battling four-set victory over Murray, is competing in his first Grand Slam final since 2006 as he bids to add a second title to his 2003 US Open success. The 26-year-old American trails Federer 18-2 in head-to-head meetings, having lost all seven previous Grand Slam match-ups, including the 2004 and 2005 Wimbledon finals.

Defending champions Serena and Venus Williams have reached the women’s doubles final after an overwhelming 61 62 victory over top seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber. They will take on Australians Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs, who defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 67 64 62.

There were contrasting fortunes for Black and Huber in the mixed doubles semifinals. Black and Leander Paes overcame Stephen Huss and Ruano Pascual 64 64, while Huber and Jamie Murray lost to Mark Knowles and Anna-Lena Groenefeld 62 75.
