| Wimbledon Day 8 - Williams' march on |
Sisters Venus and Serena Williams remain on course to play each other in Saturday's final, both easing into the semifinals with straight-set victories.
Two-time defending champion Venus had no problems against Agnieszka Radwanska in her quarterfinal, cruising to a 61 62 win. The American is bidding to become the first female player since Steffi Graf to win the tournament three years in a row and is yet to drop a set at this year's tournament. Serena was in superb form when playing Victoria Azarenka, making just one error in the first set. The second was a little closer, but the No. 2 seed proved too powerful and just too good for her opponent, closing out the match 62 63. Next up for her is Elena Dementieva, who completely outclassed Italy’s Francesca Schiavone 62 62.
The last semifinal spot will be filled by Dinara Safina, who was pushed all the way by unseeded 19-year-old German Sabine Lisicki. The top seed and world No. 1 came from a set down to triumph 67 (5) 64 61 and now takes on Venus Williams in her first ever Wimbledon semifinal.
