Wimbledon Day 3 - Dulko stuns Sharapova
Argentina’s Gisela Dulko scored the first major upset of 2009 Wimbledon when she defeated former champion Maria Sharapova 62 36 64 on Centre Court.

Sharapova, who won the 2004 title at the age of 17, reeled off seven games in a row from 3-0 down in the second set, but her opponent recovered to seal victory on her fifth match point. There were no such problems for another former champion, No. 2 seed Serena Williams, who needed only 58 minutes for a 62 61 win over Slovak-born Australian Jarmila Groth.

Other seeded players to progress included Elena Dementieva, Victoria Azarenka, Vera Zvonareva, Nadia Petrova, Marion Bartoli and Dominika Cibulkova.

In the men’s draw, title favourite Roger Federer scored another comfortable straight-sets victory, defeating Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 62 62 64 in one hour 29 minutes. His possible semifinal opponent, Novak Djokovic, was another straight-sets winner, overcoming Simon Greul 75 61 64.

Michael Llodra had to retire in bizarre circumstances having crashed into a ballgirl and a chair running for a ball during the first set of his match again Tommy Haas. Llodra pulled out of the contest three games later trailing 4-3. Another Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga benefited from the withdrawal of Simone Bolelli with a back injury, while Fernando Verdasco, Marin Cilic and Robin Soderling also progressed to round three.
