Australian Open Day 9: Safina ends Dokic dream
Dinara Safina has ended Jelena Dokic's fairytale run, defeating the Australian 64 46 64 in a scrappy encounter.

The former world No. 4, whose current ranking is down at 187, was only playing in the event having won last month's wild-card play-offs. She pushed the third seed all the way, but the Russian got the crucial break of serve in the deciding set, to win after two hours and 19 minutes.

She will now play her compatriot Vera Zvonareva after the No. 7 cruised to a 63 60 triumph over France's Marion Bartoli.

Roger Federer looked in majestic form today, producing a master class to thrash world No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro 63 60 60 in only eighty minutes. He will now face Andy Roddick in what will be his 19th consecutive Grand Slam semifinal appearance.

Roddick claimed his place in the last four, after defending champion Novak Djokovic had to retire in their match, when the American was leading two sets to one. The Serb pulled out after struggling in the sapping 40C heat with cramp and fatigue setting in when the score was at 67(3) 64 62 2-1.
