| Australian Open Day 5: Kleybanova stuns Ivanovic |
No.5 seed and last years finalist Ana Ivanovic has been sent crashing out of the tournament by Russian Alisa Kleybanova. The Serb never recovered from losing the first set and hit numerous unforced errors, going down 75 67 62 to the world No. 31.
Australia's Jelena Dokic continued her resurgent form by defeating Caroline Wozniacki in three sets to take her place in the fourth round. Jelena Jankovic eased past Japan's Ai Sugiyama 64 64 and will now play Marion Bartoli, who proved too strong for Lucie Safarova, coming out on top 36 62 61.
Other women victorious today were Dinara Safina, Alize Cornet, Nadia Petrova and Vera Zvonareva.
Roger Federer won the battle of the former champions in his match against Marat Safin. The pair had not met in the event since their 2005 semifinal, which Safin won on his way to the title. But that wasn’t going to happen this year as Federer eased to a 63 62 76(5) triumph and looks in good form.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic was made to work harder than he probably thought to secure a 62 46 63 76 (4) against world No. 127 Amer Delic, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser. Andy Roddick is also through and will meet Tommy Robredo after defeating Fabrice Santoro 63 64 62.
Today also saw Juan Martin del Potro, Marin Cilic and Marcos Baghdatis into the next stage.
