Australian Open Day 1: Djokovic into next round
Defending champion Novak Djokovic was pushed hard by the Andrea Stoppini in his opening match on Monday but came through 62 63 75.

The 2008 winner made light work of the Italian in the opening set, but had to come from a break down in the second and 4-0 down in the third to earn his win in blistering heat.

The rest of the seeds playing today who successfully moved into the second round included Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Juan Martin del Potro, Tomas Berdych, and David Ferrer.

In the women’s draw, World No. 1 one Jelena Jankovic got her campaign off to a solid start, defeating Yvonne Meusburger 61 63 en route to victory in one hour 10 minutes. Things weren’t quite as easy for compatriot Ana Ivanovic, who was in patchy form, but overcame Germany's Julia Goerges 75 63.

Others who also won through to the next stage included Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva, Alize Cornet and Daniela Hantuchova.
