Simon downs Federer
Frenchman Gilles Simon made an amazing Tennis Masters Cup debut on Monday, recovering from a set and a break down to defeat Roger Federer 46 64 63.

Simon, only playing because of Rafael Nadal's withdrawal due to injury last week, defeated the former World no. 1 in a fascinating battle which went one way, then another.

"It's always hard to win against Federer. I know that I have to play my best tennis," said Simon. "But in another way, it's easier for me because I have no question in any head. I just want to give everything, every point to my best tennis to win. It's easier to play in that way."

There was also victory for another debutant, Andy Murray, who came through a tight match with Andy Roddick, getting the better of the American in three sets.

The British no. 1 was able to put a disappointing second set behind him and recover to post a 64 16 6 victory.

"I hit the ball well for most of the match," said Murray. "Just didn't serve well in the second set. I had a chance to break him right at the start of the second. If I'd done that, then maybe second set would have been a different story. I felt like I played well. Legs don't quite have the snap in them that they did a few months ago, but I'll try and do my best to recover for the next match."
