Djokovic and Davydenko open up with victories
Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko both made winning starts at the Masters Cup in Shanghai on Sunday.

No. 2 seed Djokovic defeated Juan Martin del Potro 75 63 in the opening match of the "Gold Group". After not winning a single set at the 2007 Masters Cup, the Serb was delighted with his result. "I was a bit intimidated by the fact of not winning a single match last year, that's for sure," Djokovic said. "But this year is different. I feel more confident, a stronger player on the court, more mature. So hopefully I can use it in upcoming matches."

Russian Nikolay Davydenko came back superbly to get the better of the in-form Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 67 (6) 64 76 (70). In a match that lasted nearly three hours and consisted of numerous breaks of serve, it was the experience of the Russian that was the telling factory. "The key was to be constant for the whole match, concentration from beginning till end, till last point," Davydenko said. "Don't be nervous. If you start to be nervous, because 2 hours, 40 minutes is long match, and if you are nervous from the beginning, first set, second set, you can be tired. That's why I think Tsonga in tie-break was already completely different guy."
