| Day Nine: The Weather Wins Out |
The bad weather and then fading light combined to result in play in the mens quarterfinals being abandoned. On Centre Court Tim Henman was in trouble against Sebastien Grosjean. The Frenchman was leading 76 36 63 12 when play was stopped. The first set was like a roller coaster, Grosjean led 51, Henman took it to a tiebreak and had three set points before Grosjean fought to win it. Mark Philippoussis had turned around his match with Alexander Popp. The German had won the first two sets 64 64 but Philippoussis rallied to claim the next two 63 63. The match was locked at 22 in the final set with the Australian serving when play had to be stopped. The other mens quarters, Andy Roddick against Jonas Bjorkman and Roger Federer against Sjeng Schalken did not even come close to starting. In addition to those matches being completed, the womens semifinals between Serena Williams and Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters against Venus Williams will also be played.
