Attendees at training for National Technical Officials

Training has begun for National Technical Officials with fewer than 1,000 days to go before the start of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

ITF Officiating travelled to Brazil where a series of classroom and on-court training sessions took place.

Two-hundred-and-twenty-people attended the courses in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro. These were conducted by Carlos Ramos, ITF/GS Official, Ricardo Reis, ITF Regional Officer for South America and also responsible for Officiating at CBT, and Enric Molina, ITF Head of Officiating.

The reception from all participants was very enthusiastic and signalled a great start of this joint programme between Rio 2016, ITF and CBT.

Enric Molina, Head of Officiating said: “It was a privilege to conduct the initial training of NTOs for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The excitement and motivation of everyone brought me back in time to 1989 when I was dreaming of becoming an official for my hometown Barcelona at the 1992 Olympic Games.

"Having the chance now to help and inspire this fantastic group gives us a lot of pride and we are determined to leave a legacy of trained officials for tennis in Brazil beyond the Rio 2016 Games. I would like to warmly thank Carlos and Ricardo for their great support and assistance in preparing for and conducting the courses. They were a great Timão!”
