News Article

The ITF is saddened to learn of the death of Petya Yaneva, a regular player on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour who has died at the age of 43 from an aneurysm.

At No. 116 in the rankings release of 2 April 2018, Yaneva was her nation's highest ranked player in either the men's or women's game and in 2017 represented Bulgaria at the World Team Championship and at the European Championships.

Last year also saw Yaneva compete at the World Championships with American partner Krishna de Moura when the duo received a wild card into the main draw making them the only female Bulgarian and American players to compete in the tournament.

Notable career highlights include her title win at the $2,500 tournament in Hermosa Beach in October 2016 and in August 2017 Yaneva won back-to-back titles at tournaments staged in Zandvoort, Netherlands with fellow Bulgarian Katina Simeonova.

Yaneva's last tournament action came at the $35,000+H tournament held in Oranjestad, Aruba during November 2017.

A competitor on the Tour since July 2016 who played a strong part in the beach tennis community, the ITF send their condolences to family and friends at this sad time.
