SOLARINO, ITALY: Last week the island of Sicily held its first women’s tournament on the ITF Pro Circuit since March 2017 and saw the former WTA world number 30 Michaella Krajicek victorious.

Having gained entry as a wild card, the 2007 Wimbledon quarterfinalist claimed her first singles title since 2016 in impressive fashion seeing off the number two seed Monika Kilnarova 63 62 having eliminated Stefania Rubini, the top seed, a round earlier 61 62.

After the final Krajicek commented: "I’m really, really happy. Many thanks to Mr. Renato Morabito [the tournament director] for the chance he gave me. I played a very good tournament, day by day, having a great feeling with this surface.

Emily Appleton (GBR), Quinn Gleason (USA), Maria Masini (ITA) and Mathilde Armitano (FRA)I enjoyed the accommodation in the on-site hotel, as well, and I hope to be back here to play the next edition of this nice and well-organised tournament."

The doubles event saw second seeded Emily Appleton and Quinn Gleason reach a second final in as many tournaments together.

Having lost in a final in Dublin in July 2017 in their first tournament together, the duo went one better in Solarino and fought back from a set down to claim the title with a 36 75 [10-8] win over fourth seeds Maria Masini and Mathilde Armitano.
