LUBBOCK, TX, USA: This past weekend saw American and Russian players Victoria Duval and Alisa Kleybanova take on all-comers to reach both the singles and doubles finals.

The pair, who have both won battles with cancer in recent years, teamed up together for the first time in Texas and, having come through qualifying, knocked-out the first and third seeds as they progressed to Saturday's doubles final.

Second seeds Karman Kaur Thandi and Ana Veselinovic looked set to upset the fairytale ending for Duval and Kleybanova when restricting the pair to just two games in the opening set.

Duval and Kleybanova struck back though to level the final at a set-a-piece to force the match into a decisive match tiebreak. The tiebreaker was closely contested and it was Duval and Kleybanova who completed their comeback to triumph 26 64 [10-8].

The duo returned to the court the following day but this time on opposing sides of the net with the singles title at stake.

It had been a while since either had got their hands on a singles title with Duval last winning in 2013 with Kleybanova tasting success more recently of the pair in 2015 and it was the unseeded Russian who dominated her doubles partner and third seed to run out a 60 62 winner.
