Giovannini, Burmakin win in Terracina

ITA, Terracina - Nikita Burmakin and Tommaso Giovannini

Flaminia Dania and Sofia Cimatti won the women's doubles title while Tommaso Giovannini and Nikitia Burmakin claimed a title for a second consecutive week with a straight sets victory at the $15,000, Internazionali di Beach Tennis Citta di Terracina on Sunday 3 September.

The event, on Italy’s west coast, saw an increased purse, up from $10,000 the previous year, further marking its significance on the tour and once again attracting an elite field to the seaside town.

In front of a passionate home crowd, and in the shadows of the Tempio di Giove, the all-Italian pairing of Dania and Cimatti came through in straight sets 64 76 over Brazilians Joana Cortez and Raffaella Miiller, pleasing the Italian fans who had filled the beach venue. The triumph was made even sweeter considering they’d lost, only a week before, in the final to the same pairing at the Saarlouis Open, Germany.

The men’s final saw Burmakin and Giovannini overcoming previous years champions, and the all Italian duo of Luca Cramarossa and Marco Garavini in straight sets 64 76(5). The victors, who hadn’t featured in the last year’s event, saw off both the number one and two seeds in straight sets on their way to lifting the title.
