Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia claimed the Aegon Surbiton Trophy title on Sunday, defeating Great Britain’s No. 2 Heather Watson on her home turf 64 75 in the final.

Rybarikova’s triumph at the $100,000 tournament sees her move up 75 ranking places to No. 117.

Despite falling at the final hurdle Watson, seeded sixth, was positive about her performance, later saying that she had had a "great first week on grass".

In the men’s draw at Surbiton, Japan’s Yuichi Sugita overcame the strong challenge of Jordan Thompson of Australia 76(7) 76(8) to reach a career-high singles ranking of No. 64.

Elsewhere on the Pro Circuit, top seeded Danielle Collins beat her former college teammate Lauren Embree in an all-American final at the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony on Sunday.

World No. 194 Collins despatched Embree 61 60 to win a share of the clay court tournament’s $25,000 prize money, dropping just 20 games and one set in six matches en route to her first title of 2017.

Meanwhile, the fourth seeded pairing of American Sabrina Santamaria and Abigail Tere-Apisah of Papua New Guinea claimed the doubles crown by upsetting top seeds and defending champions Sophie Chang and Alexandra Mueller 64 60.

And in Essen, Germany, the Bredeney Ladies Open culminated in victory for former Top 20 player Kaia Kanepi who took home her first title since 2015. The Latvian, who was handed a wild card for the $25,000 event, was facing Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the final when the former world No. 7 retired at two games down in the third set.
