Australia lead the four teams that will represent the Asia/Oceania region at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals in the Czech Republic in August after they won the WJT Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Bangkok, Thailand. They will be joined at the Finals by Korea, China and Thailand.
Australia were first on the scoreboard in the final against Korea. Lara Susan Walker maintained her composure to win an exciting match 75 26 63. The No. 1 players then took the court as the temperature soared past 30 degrees.
Australia's Annerly Ruta Poulos was on her game very quickly, claiming the first set over Yeonwoo Ku (KOR) 62. After this is was one way traffic as Poulos closed out the match to give Australia victory and first place in the competition.
China and Thailand played out an absorbing battle for third place. Thailand took the opening singles before China's Sijia Wei levelled the tie with a 63 62 win over Thamonpan Jonglertrakul. The doubles went right down to the wire, with China's Na Dong and Sijia Wei sealing victory 17-15 in the championship tiebreak.
ITF Junior Team Competition action takes a break until the South America qualifying for Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas in Bogota, Colombia from 17-22 April.
