As part of a major re-vamp of the British grass court season, 2017 sees a significant increase in prize money and points with a four-week swing of $100k women’s events on the ITF Pro Circuit this Summer.
The series’ first appeared on the calendar for the 2015 season where it consisted of three $50,000 tournaments held in Eastbourne, Surbiton and Ilkley and this continued for 2016.
The re-vamp of the British grass court season is with a view to help optimise players’ preparation for competing at The Championships, Wimbledon, and the Aegon Trophy Series is a fundamental part of this.
The tournaments featured in this increased series for 2017 includes:
Aegon Surbiton Trophy
Played at the Surbiton Rackets and Fitness Club, running alongside a men’s ATP €127k Challenger, the club has newly re-furbished grass courts, practice from Wednesday before the event, plus additional practice courts off site.
Aegon Manchester Trophy
Played at the prestigious Northern LTC. Having staged an award winning men’s ATP Challenger event in 2015 and 2016, this year sees the event transfer to a women’s $100k. The club boasts high quality match and practice courts.
Aegon Ilkley Trophy
Played at the Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club. Combined with a men’s ATP €127k Challenger, like Manchester, Ilkley is an award winning event, held in a unique location with stunning views over Ilkley Moor. The club has a stunning new club house with player facilities.
Aegon Southsea Trophy
Played at Canoe Lake Leisure in a historic coastal location. This new event for 2017 is a $100k+H, played on newly re-furbished grass courts, ample practice, with a 16 player main draw & 8 pair doubles draw (no qualifying), and is only 75 minutes from Wimbledon.
As well as providing increased ranking points and more prize money, the Aegon Trophy Series will offer competitors great preparation for The Championships, Wimbledon.
