ORLANDO, FL, USA: At the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Sunday, 18-year-old Marie Bouzkova claimed her second singles title of 2017 on the ITF Pro Circuit and a first on a clay court since her maiden title win back in September 2014 in South Carolina.
Winner of four singles titles in 2016, this latest title triumph builds upon her February success in Perth, Australia and is her first at the $15,000 prize money level and represents a sixth straight win in singles finals contested since January 2016.
The WTA Top 250 ranked player from the Czech Republic was named as the number one seed for this Florida based tournament and her run to the title saw her drop just the two sets – the opening set of her quarterfinal with Chieh-Yu Hsu from Chinese Taipei and in the final itself where she faced the second seeded Mexican player Victoria Rodriguez.
In the final, the two players played out two evenly matched sets with each claiming a 75 win to send the final into a decisive third set.
Here, Bouzkova dominated. Having just conceded the second set to Rodriguez, the Czech teenager rattled off six games without reply to complete a 75 57 60 victory and earn a career tenth singles title from twelve finals on the ITF Pro Circuit.
